Anglesey Open Studios

I’m very pleased to be participating in this years very popular Anglesey Open Studios event From March 31st until 12 April. Over 50 Artists will open their doors for people to see their work and how they do it. I’ve put a link to the official guide at the bottom of this post, but before you explore that I thought i’d tell you a little bit about me and what i’ll be doing !

Open Studio

I’ll have a selection of Oil and Watercolour paintings to view. Some framed, some in various stages of development. Many of the paintings are of or inspired by Llandonna Beach. So you can look outside and look at the paintings to see how I interpret the vast beauty of this wonderful corner of the Island.

Over the Open Studio period i’ll be creating new works, so you’re welcome to come and see how a painting develops from an idea to a finished painting.

Exhibitions & Event Guide

I will have two artworks at both Arts Forum exhibitions at Canolfan David Hughes, Beaumaris (No 7 in the Guide) and Canolfan Ucheldre in Holyhead (No 36 in the Guide).

These exhibitions are great opportununity to preview the Open Studios artists and decide which you might like to visit

Although my work would generally be regarded as Impressionist, i’ve always thought that “Quiet Art” describes it pretty well. For fun i asked AI what Quiet Art is and was very impressed with it’s explaination. So with some editing and a few of my paintings added, here it is …..

Quiet art is a term that describes artwork that embraces subtlety, simplicity, and introspection rather than boldness or spectacle. The beauty of art is that it doesn’t move ! Viewers are encouraged to engage deeply, noticing small details and feeling the quiet resonance of the work not only in a single viewing but in your living space over a period of time

Here’s what often defines quiet art:

Minimalist aesthetics: Often uses soft colors, gentle forms, and restrained compositions.

Emotional depth: Focuses on personal memory, solitude, or inner peace rather than dramatic narratives.

Natural materials: Artists may use earth pigments, handmade paper, or organic textures to evoke calm and connection to nature.

It's intersting to note the the transfer of emotion from the artist to the viewer. The creation itself is often meditative, with artists working slowly and intentionally. It’s most usual for my paintings to grow organically over a number of painting sessions each layer adding depth and complexity
